How does adefovir treat hepatitis B?

Antiviral medicines like adefovir work by stopping the hepatitis B virus from multiplying (replicating); this reduces the amount of the virus in your body. Call your doctor at once if you have: liver problems--nausea, loss of appetite, stomach pain (upper right side), dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
