It works by stopping the spread of the flu virus in the body. Baloxavir marboxil helps to shorten the time that flu symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, cough, muscle or joint aches, tiredness, headache, fever, and chills last. Baloxavir marboxil will not prevent bacterial infections, which may occur as a complication of the flu.

Does Baloxavir marboxil treat the common cold?

Baloxavir marboxil will not treat the common cold. Baloxavir marboxil is also used to prevent flu symptoms in people who have been in contact with someone who has the flu. Baloxavir marboxil is for adults and children at least 12 years old and weighing at least 88 pounds (40 kilograms).

Does Baloxavir marboxil inhibit BSEP?

In in vitro transporter studies at clinically relevant concentrations, baloxavir marboxil inhibited the efflux transporter (P-gp). Baloxavir, but not baloxavir marboxil, inhibited Breast Cancer Resistance Protein (BCRP). Baloxavir is not an inhibitor of BSEP or OAT1 in vitro.

Does Baloxavir marboxil affect CYP3A4 pharmacokinetics?

single 40 mg dose of baloxavir marboxil did not affect the pharmacokinetics of midazolam, a substrate of CYP3A4, suggesting that baloxavir marboxil or baloxavir is not expected to affect the pharmacokinetics of co-administered drugs that are substrates of CYP3A.
