Does Calpol contain paracetamol?
Calpol contains the active ingredient paracetamol. Paracetamol is thought to relieve pain by reducing the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord. Prostaglandins are produced by the body in response to injury and certain diseases.

Where did Calpol come from?
Calpol was launched in 1959 by Calmic Limited, based in Crewe. (It’s likely the Calpol brand name comes from the contraction of “Calmic” and “paracetamol”.) At the time, paracetamol was being given to children in solution and tasted extremely bitter; Calmic was the first to suspend it in a sweet, flavoured syrup.
What is Calpol ® Infant Suspension used for?
The paracetamol in CALPOL® Infant Suspension is used to relieve pain and / or bring down fever (high temperature) in many conditions including post-immunisation fever, teething, headache, cold and flu, toothache, earache, sore throat and other aches and pains. This medicine is suitable for most people but a few people should not use it.
