Celecoxib - Managing Pain and Inflammation with NSAIDs
Celecoxib FAQ
How does celecoxib work?
It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Celecoxib is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and menstrual pain. Celecoxib is used to treat juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children who are at least 2 years old.
Is celecoxib (Celebrex) safe?
The absence of warnings or other information for a given drug does not indicate that the drug or drug combination is safe, effective, or appropriate for all patients or all specific uses. Celecoxib (Celebrex) is an anti-inflammatory drug used to treat arthritis and other conditions. Find out how it works, its side effects, warnings, and more.
Does celecoxib cause drowsiness?
NSAIDs block an enzyme called cyclooxygenase (COX). COX works in your body to produce chemicals that cause pain and inflammation. By blocking COX, NSAIDs like this drug stop these chemicals from forming. This, in turn, reduces pain and inflammation. Celecoxib oral capsule does not cause drowsiness, but it can cause other side effects.
How long does celecoxib last?
Celecoxib has an effective half-life of approximately 11 hours. Hepatic impairment reduces the clearance of celecoxib, and people with moderate hepatic impairment should be prescribed a 50% lower dose. Celebrex has not been studied in people with severe renal or hepatic impairment and is not recommended in these people.
Is celecoxib a NSAID?
Anti-inflammatory painkillers like celecoxib are sometimes called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or just 'anti-inflammatories'. Celecoxib is used to treat painful rheumatic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It eases pain and reduces inflammation.
