What is a cloth face mask?

A cloth face mask is a mask made of common textiles, usually cotton, worn over the mouth and nose.

What should a cloth face mask be made of?

Health authorities recommend that cloth masks be made of three layers of fabric of different weaves. A cloth mask should cover both your nose and mouth, and there should be no gaps between your face and the mask. Face masks with holes or one-way valves are not suitable. Cloth face masks are accepted under current mask mandates in Australia.

Which mask should I wear?

The CDC says that you should wear the most protective mask that you'll wear regularly, fits well and is comfortable. Respirators such as nonsurgical N95s give the most protection. KN95s and medical masks provide the next highest level of protection. Cloth masks provide less protection.
