Streptomycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat moderate to severe tuberculosis, pneumonia, E. coli, influenza, plague and other infections caused by certain bacteria. Streptomycin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
How do I use streptomycin?
Use Streptomycin exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Streptomycin is injected into a muscle. A healthcare provider can teach you how to properly use the medication by yourself. You may be given other medications to help treat your infection.
Can streptomycin treat a bacterial infection?
They do not treat viral infections (e.g., the common cold ).When streptomycin is prescribed to treat a bacterial infection, patients should be told that although it is common to feel better early in the course of therapy, the medication should be taken exactly as directed.
