What is health monitoring?
Health monitoring is the monitoring of a worker by doctors to identify changes in their health status because of exposure to certain substances. If you are a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), you must provide health monitoring to workers if there is a significant risk to workers health because of exposure to a hazardous chemical.
What is a Health Monitoring Guide?
Health monitoring guides for hazardous chemicals − Health monitoring guide for workers − Health monitoring guide for persons conducting business or undertakings (PCBUs). In certain circumstances, the model WHS Regulations place duties on a PCBU to provide health monitoring to workers.
Why is health monitoring important?
It lets the PCBU know if control measures are not effective or if a worker’s health is being affected by exposure to hazardous chemicals, so that action can be taken. Health monitoring is carried out by or supervised by a registered medical practitioner (a doctor) with experience in health monitoring.
