You can take this capsule by mouth as directed or you can open the capsule and mix the contents with soft foods. Make sure you eat the food within 30 minutes of mixing. What should I know about efavirenz?

you should know that your body fat may increase or move to different areas of your body such as your breasts and upper back, neck (''buffalo hump''), and around your stomach. You may notice a loss of body fat from your face, legs, and arms. you should know that efavirenz may cause changes in your thoughts, behavior, or mental health.

Does efavirenz cause heart problems?

Efavirenz can cause a serious heart problem. Your risk may be higher if you also use certain other medicines for infections, asthma, heart problems, high blood pressure, depression, mental illness, cancer, malaria, or HIV. Other drugs may affect efavirenz, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Can efavirenz be taken with food?

The administration of efavirenz with food has been shown to increase serum concentrations and the incidence of side effects. For this reason, patients should not take efavirenz with food. Peak concentrations are reached by 5 hours following a single oral dose, with steady-state plasma concentrations achieved in 6 to 7 days.
