Neupogen - Information and Usage
Neupogen FAQ
What is Neupogen & how does it work?
What is Neupogen? Neupogen is a man-made form of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). G-CSF is a substance produced by the body. It stimulates the growth of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell important in the body’s fight against infection.
What is NEUPOGEN (filgrastim)?
What Is Neupogen? Neupogen (filgrastim) is a man-made form of a protein that stimulates the growth of white blood cells in your body used to treat neutropenia, a lack of certain white blood cells caused by cancer, bone marrow transplant, receiving chemotherapy, or by other conditions.
How effective is Neupogen?
It stimulates the growth of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell important in the body’s fight against infection. Acute Radiation Syndrome: The effectiveness of Neupogen for this use was only studied in animals, because it could not be studied in people. Who should not take Neupogen?
How does Neogen ® work?
Like G-CSF, NEUPOGEN ® acts in the bone marrow, where it helps boost the production of white blood cells. With NEUPOGEN ®, white blood cells may mature faster into neutrophils, ready for release into the blood stream to help fight bacteria and help reduce the risk of infection.
What is Neupogen ® used for?
Neupogen ® is indicated to decrease the incidence of infection resulting from neutropenia (low white blood cells counts) in cancer patients receiving treatment. Neupogen ® is also expected to help patients who have bone marrow damage from very high doses of radiation in much the same way.
How does Neupogen ® help patients with severe neutropenia?
Until their white blood cell counts rise sufficiently, these patients are at a high risk of death from infection because of severe neutropenia. Neupogen ® can accelerate the process of creating white blood cells, reducing the time that the patient is vulnerable to infection.
What is NEUPOGEN ® (filgrastim)?
Neupogen ® (Filgrastim), is a drug that has been used successfully for cancer patients to produce more white blood cells (granulocytes or neutrophils). Neupogen ® is indicated to decrease the incidence of infection resulting from neutropenia (low white blood cells counts) in cancer patients receiving treatment.
Why am I using Neogen?
1. Why am I using NEUPOGEN? NEUPOGEN contains the active ingredient filgrastim. NEUPOGEN is used to encourage your bone marrow to produce more neutrophils, a type of white blood cell.
