Lopinavir Information
Lopinavir FAQ
What is lopinavir used for?
Lopinavir is an anti retroviral of the protease inhibitor class. It is used against HIV infections as a fixed-dose combination with another protease inhibitor, ritonavir ( lopinavir/ritonavir ). It was patented in 1995 and approved for medical use in 2000.
What is the difference between lopinavir and ritonavir?
Both lopinavir and ritonavir belong to a class of drugs known as HIV protease inhibitors. Ritonavir increases ("boosts") the levels of lopinavir. This helps lopinavir work better.Lopinavir/ritonavir is not a cure for HIV infection.
What happens if lopinavir is combined with fosamprenavir?
Lopinavir may decrease the excretion rate of Formestane which could result in a higher serum level. The risk or severity of QTc prolongation can be increased when Formoterol is combined with Lopinavir. The serum concentration of Lopinavir can be decreased when it is combined with Fosamprenavir.
