What is the bioavailability of Viread?

VIREAD is a water soluble diester prodrug of the active ingredient tenofovir. The oral bioavailability of tenofovir from VIREAD in fasted subjects is approximately 25%. Following oral administration of a single dose of VIREAD 300 mg to HIV-1 infected subjects in the fasted state, maximum serum concentrations (Cmax) are achieved in 1.0 ± 0.4 hrs.

What are the side effects of Viread?

Among the 45 subjects receiving VIREAD, the most frequently reported treatment-emergent adverse reactions of any severity were abdominal pain (22%), nausea (20%), insomnia (18%), pruritus (16%), vomiting (13%), dizziness (13%), and pyrexia (11%). Two of 45 (4%) subjects died through Week 48 of the trial due to progression of liver disease.

When is Viread used in the treatment of hepatitis B?

VIREAD in combination with other antiretroviral agents is indicated for the treatment of HIV-infected adult and paediatric patients 12 years of age and older. VIREAD is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults (see CLINICAL TRIALS).
