Who can use Xofluza?

The following information is provided for clinicians and other healthcare professionals. Xofluza is FDA-approved for use in adults and in children ages 12 years and older to: treat acute, uncomplicated influenza* in adults and in children ages 12 years and older.

Does Xofluza treat the common cold?

Xofluza is used to treat flu symptoms caused by the influenza virus in people who have had symptoms for no more than 48 hours. Baloxavir marboxil will not treat the common cold. Xofluza is also used to prevent flu symptoms in people who have been in contact with someone who has the flu.

How effective is Xofluza?

Xofluza has been shown to be effective at shortening the length of time people have the flu. In clinical studies, flu symptoms were relieved an average of 26 to 29 hours faster in people who took Xofluza than in people who took a placebo. (A placebo is a treatment containing no active drug).

How does Xofluza help prevent the flu?

One-dose XOFLUZA helps protect you and your family members aged 5 years and older from getting the flu. XOFLUZA may help lower your chances of getting the flu by 87% after being exposed to someone who has the flu, compared with placebo. If a family member has been exposed to the flu, you need to act fast because the window for treatment is short.

What is Xofluza used for?

Xofluza is an antiviral medicine for treating and preventing flu in adults and children from 1 year of age. As a treatment, Xofluza is only used for uncomplicated flu (flu without serious effects that may require hospital care). Xofluza contains the active substance baloxavir marboxil. How is Xofluza used? How does Xofluza work?

Can you take Xofluza if you have the flu?

One-dose XOFLUZA can also be given to otherwise healthy patients aged 5 to less than 12 years within 48 hours of experiencing flu symptoms. XOFLUZA treats the flu with one tablet taken one time. Over-the-counter medicines just treat flu symptoms, but prescription one-dose XOFLUZA attacks the flu virus at its source.

Does Xofluza prevent bacterial infections?

XOFLUZA does not treat or prevent illness that is caused by infections other than the influenza virus. XOFLUZA does not prevent bacterial infections that may happen with the flu. It is not known if XOFLUZA is safe and effective for the treatment and prevention of the flu in children less than 5 years of age.
